HOW DO YOU STEEL YOUR HEART?

How do you steel your heart and lock your feelings in a box as you let their hands go and find you are on the wrong side of the gates and perimeter fences that cleave your world into two? And they are shepherded into hurried ranks onto the waiting flying machines, waterfalls of tears run, your own flesh and blood now turning and looking anxiously back to you but driven along by tidal way of humanity to an alien land across the mountains and oceans.

How do you steel your heart and smile and wave as they ascend the sloping tail gate to the Promised Land and in an act of unimaginable sacrifice stifle your cries lest they push their way back to chaos and terror and the loving embrace of a parent?
